At the moment we are focusing on improving access to psychiatric care. If you need to see a psychiatrist for a consultation, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be a resident of British Columbia and be registered with the BC medical services plan.
- You must be referred by a family doctor or nurse practitioner who is licensed in British Columbia.
- You need a device with an internet connection to attend your virtual visit with a psychiatrist.
- You must be an adult 18 years or above to book an appointment with a psychiatrist.
- If you are a child below 18 years, you will need the consent of a parent who may also attend the interview with you.
- You will not be followed continuously by our psychiatrist after your initial consultation is completed.
- An initial consultation might require two virtual visits to complete the full consult.
- A consultation report will be sent to your referring doctor or nurse practitioner.
- You may request a copy of the report from your referring provider for your own records.
- You should not send a request from your insurance company, employer, lawyer or any organisation to our psychiatrist for copies of your consultation report. These type of requests should be directed to your referring family doctor or nurse practitioner.
- If you require an inpatient admission or emergency treatment in a hospital, you should attend the nearest emergency department as soon as possible.
- Our psychiatrists do not provide urgent care or emergency care virtually. In cases where our psychiatrist realises that you need urgent care while conducting a virtual assessment, they will advise you to go to the nearest emergency department or contact 911.
- Our psychiatrist will not complete disability forms, including those for PWD, disability tax credits, return to work forms etc.
- The therapeutic relationship with you ends as soon as the final consultation report is sent to your referring provider.
- A repeat consultation can only be done after six months with another referral from your provider.
- Your family provider may contact our psychiatrist within the six month period for advice on your treatment plan.
