If you are a provider, in order to refer our patient to our psychiatrist, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- You must be licensed to practice in British Columbia.
- You must provide us with your licensing number and MSP billing number.
- You must be able to send us a referral by e-fax to our EMR.
- You must be able to receive the final consultation report to your EMR by e-fax.
- In the future, providers who are licensed in other provinces like Alberta and Ontario will be able to refer their patients to our psychiatrists licensed in those provinces.
- In order to ensure the confidentially and security of all patient information, all correspondence about patient specific questions will be done through e-fax or by telephone.
- You can book a time to speak to the psychiatrist about your patients treatment plan.
- If you wish to refer your patient back to our psychiatrist for another consultation, you will have to wait till after six months of the initial referral. This is to ensure that other new patients can access our psychiatrist within that six month period.
- Within that six month period you can correspond with our psychiatrist or speak to them on the phone to clarify the treatment plan or suggest adjustments to medications.
- You must be willing to continue following your patient after the initial consultation with our psychiatrist.
- The psychiatrist will endeavour to support you as much as possible in order to ensure that you continue providing mental health care to your patient in primary care.
- If your patient needs to start a new medication, it is advisable for you to start that medication.
